ABOUT STEREO 3D
OpenGL Quad-Buffered Stereo 3D
VisMini Stereo 3D Applications:
VisMini is a general-purpose stereo display system that can be used to display a variety of 3D stereo applications. Any application that supports 3D OpenGL quad-buffered stereo will work. Even applications that are not "stereo aware" can be forced to display in stereo by using software at the graphics driver level.
VisMini is dual use! It can also be used in monoscopic mode (one projector blanked) as a regular projection system for movies and presentations.
The VisMini uses Infitec stereo, providing unmatched stereo separation (1000:1). With VisMini, no silver screen is required – you can display on any light-colored surface.
OpenGL quad-buffered stereo delivers the highest quality 3D stereoscopic viewing:
- Adds perspective
- Provides smooth viewing
- Improves productivity
- Reduces number of design iterations
3D OpenGL quad-buffered stereo gives each eye a unique view from a slightly different perspective. It uses four buffers (front right, front left, back right, back left), rather than two buffers (front and back). It provides a smooth user view for full-screen mode.
Equipment requirements to generate and display stereo 3D images:
-
Mobile or desktop workstation: A fast graphics-enabled computer with software to support 3D OpenGL quad-buffered stereo, an NVIDIA Quadro M series (or equivalent) video card, and two video outputs. Note: the VisMini Complete includes a fully-configured computer for the VisMini projector.
- Graphics Card: To generate high speed video signals that will display a left and right image. The most popular are NVIDIA Quadro FX cards. Any dual-headed 3D graphics card should be compatible with VisMini. (Note: if your computer has only one video output, a Matrox DualHead2Go adapter can be used.)
-
Display: A device to display the images for left and right eye perspectives – a CRT monitor or a VisMini, VisDuo, VisBox or VisCube projector system.
-
3D Glasses: Passive glasses that allow the left eye and right eye to each view the image perspective.
-
NO Silver Screen required for VisMini: Old-fashioned 3D stereo projector systems require lugging around a heavy (50 - 100 pound) silver screen to project on, otherwise the 3D doesn’t work.VisMini uses the latest in stereo technology from Infitec that does not require a silver screen. VisMini will display on any light-colored surface, even a hotel room wall. VisMini is so compact it fits in the overhead compartment of most airplanes.
-
Software Applications: Software applications that support OpenGL quad-buffered stereo 3D work with VisMini out-of-the-box.
